Buried Alive

Chapter one : Repeated Dream

“Kurogane-san.”

Said man lifted his head up to see the person had called him. His ruby eyes narrowed slightly, rather disturbing by the sudden interferes.

“What is it?” he asked with a “you-know-I-was-busy-so-if-you-have-something-important-to-say-just-say-it-quickly” glare, which make the other man gulped hard.

“I bring you files you needed, Sir!” said the other man. He put a pile of folder on Kurogane’s already full desk. He huffed after he had put that heavy thing down. “It’s the track notes of murderous cases which has the same pattern as our latest case, Sir. It was all recorded.”

Kurogane eyed the massive stack of papers in front of him. “How many cases in that?”

“Around 1.438 cases in about 10 years, Sir!” the other man answered quickly. “Beside of that, there are more than 3.000 cases of missing people that suspected had a connection with that murderous cases. Do you want me to bring that files too, Sir?”

“No. It’s too much for now,” said Kurogane before he looked back at his subordinated. “You can go now.”

“Alright, Sir!” and with that he left.

Kurogane sighed. He had just promoted there as a police detective around a month ago, and already got a serious and high level case like this. It was about murderous case that brought the same distinctive feature in its victim’s body. There were 4 similar cases happened last month, and he got the responsibility to investigating those cases. The similarity of the cases was all of the victims died by a loss blood and they had a double bite mark in their neck.

Some of his subordinated said that maybe it was vampire who killed them, which usually snapped by him by said that it was just a maniac who had a strange taste in killing his victims. And when he said that with his stern glare, no one had courage to quarrel him.

He took the lowest folder from the pile and flipped it open. He read the first victim of that case data. It was a blond girl named Chii Valeriana. When the Death picked her, she was at age 10 and she died on July 15th, 10 years ago. Kurogane snorted. The killer might be a pedophile or some sort of indecent man.

And that was the time his cell phone decided to ring.

He growled angrily. A call from his cell phone mean a private call, and he didn’t like being disturbed in his busy hours. He fished his phone from his pocket and flipped it open harshly. His screen phone beeped the name ‘Tomoyo’. Kurogane gritted his teeth. That devilish crazy little girl! Why she always got him on the nerves! Didn’t she know that he was extremely busy?

He pushed the ‘yes’ button and took it to his ear. “Tomoyo, I’m very busy right now! You should have known that, little girl! I’ll hang !”

“Don’t you dare to hang up my call, Kurogane onii-sama!” Tomoyo’s feminine voice cut off Kurogane’s words. The raven haired man noted that his sister said that in a sickeningly sweet and singsong voice yet with threatening tone slipped beneath it. Even the scariest man on the world would fall silent and trembling madly when she used that kind of tone.

“What do you want? I won’t do groceries or doing some errands that involving frilly lace or girl accessories!” Kurogane warned. “And stop calling me ‘onii-sama’ if you just want to tease me!”

“Oh, temper, my dear brother! It isn’t good for your health, you know!” Tomoyo laughed her ‘ohohoho’ style. “Honestly, I do really want you to help me unpacking my things and buying me some material for my new design. But that wasn’t the reason I’m calling right now.”

“Tch! Then say it quickly and get the hell off!”

“Your language is so colorful, onii-sama.” He heard Tomoyo sighed. But then her tone changed drastically to a serious one when she said, “I want to talk to you personally. So please go home early.”

“What the hell was that!? Who do you think you are? My boss?” he snapped loudly. “Look, Tomoyo! I’m very busy right now and I can’t go home early! If you wanted so badly to talk, just call Amaterasu-sama!”

“But it’s about a problem which can only solved by you, Kurogane! Onee-sama doesn’t have the right power for this,” Tomoyo almost pleaded, which made Kurogane quickly noted that something serious had happened. “I want you to go home early! It doesn’t matter if you must take the rest of your work home!”

“Are you crazy or what?” Kurogane snapped again. Even though his sister had a serious problem didn’t mean he could take his massive work at home! “I can’t take tons of papers home!”

“I said I don’t care!” Tomoyo’s voice once again threatened.

“And I said I would do an overwork until this fucking works has finished!” Kurogane replied with a same threatening tone.

“Fine!” Tomoyo huffed. “Then I would wait for you in your house FOREVER! I don’t care if you home at dawn or even the next month!”

“You little! Don’t you dare come inside my apartment and mess it up!” he shouted. But he was too late. The disconnecting sound beeped constantly in his ear. That little brat! How dare she hung up the phone when he still didn’t finish talking!

“Damn that little thing!” he muttered darkly when he pocketed his phone back. But somehow in his head his younger sister pleading voice bothered him. Actually, Tomoyo and Amaterasu weren’t his real sisters. They were his cousins. But when his parents died in an accident, his uncle – Amaterasu and Tomoyo’s father – adopted him as a son even though his family name let unchanged. He was still around 14 when his parents died, so he could easily address his uncle’s family as his own family. And spent a long time known Tomoyo, he knew that his little sister was a strong and tough girl that hardly showed her weakness. And her plea must’ve mean for something massively wrong.

Kurogane shook his head. His sister seemed like she could get a hold on everyone. Even she could make his family moved to this town just because he was promoted here. She said she would miss her big brother terribly if he live faraway from them, which seemed like ‘I can’t tease and mock Kurogane again if he go’ in Kurogane’s ears.

But, yeah… his sister’s earlier tone had echoed constantly in his head. Maybe he would go home early to find out the problem. And maybe he would really take tons of papers home. Damn that girl!

“Ah, Kurogane! You do home early!” Tomoyo greeted him at the entrance door of his house. She used a frilly pink apron outside her dress. Kurogane winced at the sight.

“What do you wear and what do you do? Don’t say you mess up my kitchen!” said Kurogane when he take off his shoes. He pointed at his sister’s apron.

“It’s apron, silly!” Tomoyo laughed. “And I was cooking dinner, mind you! Who knows you had terrible ingredients in your fridge! That all are junk, you know! Gosh, brother, you need a good wife so she could cook you healthy foods because I can’t take care of you forever! Ne, how about I find you a wife?”

“What the hell are you talking about!?” Kurogane shouted. His cheeks slightly turned pink. “Who had said that I want you to take care of me? You always suggest it yourself! And no, I don’t need a damn woman to disturbing my work! Two crazy sisters had already made my day like in basement hell!”

Tomoyo’s purple eyes gleamed mischievously. “Oh? You need a man to cook you healthy foods, then? Oh, Kurogane! You should have told me and Amaterasu-sama and Mommy and Daddy that you like guy!”

“Are you here just to get me pissed!? Did your serious problem was this wife kind of thing!?” Kurogane snarled, rather irritated with his sister’s teasing.

“No,” she said with a serious tone. But awhile later, her voice turned back at singsong mode. “But before we talk about that, come in and let’s have dinner!”

“A dream…?” Kurogane stared at the long haired girl in front of him.

“Foreseen dream, Kurogane,” Tomoyo corrected.

“Whatever,” he grumbled. “You said there’s a girl around 12 in an abandoned church uphill?”

“Yes,” she answered with a sad look. “She had a long blond hair and wore a worn out dress. She was so thin it’s so pitiful! Don’t know how long she has been there and what she had got into!”

Kurogane fell silent. He knew Tomoyo sometimes had a dream of something would happen in the future or something had already happened in the past time. He believed her power because he had proofed it himself. When he was in high school, Tomoyo had ever warned him not to go to his school study tour. And because she was so disturbing (in Kurogane’s viewpoint) he decided to comply her request so she would shut up. But then he heard news that said the bus he should’ve been there got an accident and made some of his classmate died right in place. Since that he would listen carefully when she put ‘I was dreaming’ words among her sentences.

“Please help her, Kurogane! I didn’t know how she could survive before, but now when we have already knew about this poor kid, we must help her!” Tomoyo began her pleading.

“How long have you had that dream?” asked Kurogane.

“About a weeks ago,” the black haired girl answered.

“When you moved in to this town, then?” Kurogane began his interrogation mode.

She nodded. “Two days after we had moved, to be precise.”

“Only that time?”

“You can say it was repeated,” Tomoyo grimaced, seemed hard to find words to describe what have in her mind. “But it repeated with a different viewpoint. You know, like watching some movies with different version but same theme.”

“I think I could understand,” he said. “How come you didn’t tell me earlier? Or Amaterasu-sama, maybe?”

She shook her head sheepishly. “You know, I couldn’t reach her for the first time. So when my dream version changing, I think that time I could reach her. And then I keep trying. But the result was always the same. I couldn’t touch her.”

Kurogane scowled. “You couldn’t touch the real thing if you were in a dream state. How could that bother you so much?”

“That measures my ability to help my dream’s subject, Kurogane. Did you remember your case in high school? The one about your bus?” Tomoyo asked. He nodded, he couldn’t easily forget that moment. “That time, in my dream, I could touch you,” when Kurogane threw her a skeptical glance, she rolled her purple eyes. “You didn’t feel it, of course, because I was just a dream entity. But that was a sign for me that I could warn you and help you. But this time I couldn’t touch her. That’s mean I was showed, but I couldn’t help.”

Kurogane raised an eyebrow. “If you, the one who had a power, can’t help her. Why do you think I can?”

Tomoyo smiled. “Because you have the right power to do that.”

“If this about power, Amaterasu has a stronger power than me. She could handle this better than me. She also has a weird power as you, and I haven’t. I’m just an ordinary man who worked as a police detective.”

“Like I’ve said before, this is about a problem which can only solved by you, onii-sama. What I mean about ‘power’ is not about the strong power, but the right power. Amaterasu-sama indeed has a stronger power than you, but she can’t do that because her power isn’t the right one. Only you can save her, Kurogane!” Tomoyo said with her calm attitude, made her figure much like a princess. Kurogane sometimes thought that maybe his sister got double personalities. One time she could be so childish and so to say a hypermaniac girl, but other time her figure seemed so calm and her words so wise.

“How do you know it’s only me?” he asked.

His sister put her hands on her chest and closed her eyes. “Because my heart knows, Kurogane. When I saw that poor little child, I instantly knew that only you who can ease her pain and protect her forever.”

“I’m just a police, Sis!” Kurogane looked unsatisfied by her answer. “You always said that I was so grumpy and how come I can be a good police with my high temper. And don’t forget about I would get any kid traumatized with my harsh behavior, you said that. And here you are ask me to deal with a 12 years old, a girl nonetheless!”

“You used so much ‘and’. You must’ve better think of other conjunction,” Tomoyo smiled her sweet smile.

“Don’t critics my conjunction when I was serious!” barked Kurogane.

“Alright, alright.” Tomoyo waved her hand. “I wouldn’t take back my comment. You will make any kid traumatized if you keep your bad habit of yelling to other people, Kurogane.” Kurogane’s scowl deepened and Tomoyo laughed. “But I think this kid is different. I know you two will have a good relationship. Who knows live with a kid would change your behavior a bit, ne, brother?”

“Who said I would let her live with me? Once I get the kid out of that damn church, I will send her to an orphanage or if you want so badly to keep her, take her as your wish! But I will never let her live with me!”

Tomoyo’s eyes shined brightly. “That’s mean you will help her?”

“Yes! Because it was part of my damn job as a police!” answered Kurogane.

“Thank you so much, Brother!” Tomoyo beamed happily. “Maybe your live would be a little bit hard after this, but I know you two will manage it together!”

Kurogane was taken aback by her comment. “What was that supposed to mean?”

Tomoyo smiled mysteriously. “I’m just going to say that the child is your destiny.”

“So this is why we had that marriage talking before,” Kurogane’s brows slightly twitched. “What do you expect me to do with a kid who had differences above 10 years with me? I’m not a damn pedophile!”

“Age doesn’t matter once she grow up, I presume. And mind you, destiny can do some surprises to people sometimes. Just wait and see.”

“Then it’s positive I will send her to an orphanage!” Kurogane grunted low.

A/N :

Oookaaaay… update! ^^; Jadi demi kebaikan bersama, amannya kita jadikan Kurogane jadi polisi aja yah! Teruuuss… masalah update selanjutnya… kayaknya bakal lama banget nget nget, soalnya sifat nomadenku lagi kambuh dan alhasil baru ngerjain 4 chap buat fanfic ini, aku udah bikin 5 chap buat fanfic KuroFai yang lain, “Love Beyond Invasion”. Jadi… maaf aja deeeh! hahaha… *kabur dari lemparan tomat busuk orang2 yang dah baca prolog and chap 1*
